Crisis of dependency

"Behold I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall hurt you." Luke 10:19

I see a lot of fear these days, it is everywhere, it permeates our entire society. I would argue that it is one of our society's greatest diseases. Just turn on the T.V. and you'll hear about some murder, some corrupt, greedy politician getting caught, some pending global crisis,  some corperation laying off employees, the Dow Jones dipping a thousand points, the monthly jobless claims skyrocketing. It seems like our entire society is on the brink, we are all scared of something. Out of these legitimate fears a crisis of dependency is born.

It seems like we are all waiting on something, someone to rescue us from our fears.  We turn instead to the government, to family, to friends, to hobbies, mindless television, and yes even addictions.  In many ways this is a normal and expected approach but despite our feeble attempts we still are very much afraid. My advice... it's time for a new approach, a new way of seeing things.

In order to conquer our fears we need to develop a belief in something that transcends our normal existence.  We need to find something greater, more permanent than ourselves. We need to believe in Jesus, a higher power. Whenever we attach a greater meaning to external things we are always in great danger why? Because we have no control over them.  It is time to surrender our lives to Christ?  So what are you all waiting for?
